Correspondent Ever hear of looking for a needle in a haystack? Well, children attending a spe cial late summer event at Old Bed ford Village were busy hunting for surprises hid in the hay. They found the prizes almost as hard to find as a needle in a haystack. The game was divided into two different age groups. One was for those five and under, and the other The paper sacks held surprises for the children. for those ages 6 to 12. At the sound of the whistle, the children began to scamper through the hay looking for paper sacks that held gifts. As the children sifted through piles of hay, mothers who were standing behind the chidren got covered with the hay. Yo yo’s and other toys were in the bags. Some of the children were shocked to find mice in the o paper bags. But they soon discov ered the mice were not alive. The mice were magnetic, the kind that sticks to refrigerators to hold notes. The Haystack Surprise was a lot of fun for those who played and for those who watched. The next event for children at the Old Bedford Village is the October Pumpkin Festival held on October 27-28, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visi tors can paint or carve pumpkins for Cash prizes in a judging contest. There will also be a scarecrow workshop, costume parade, and a pumpkin pie eating contest.
