Lisa is shown with a representative from Groff’s Meats Inc., which donated the trophy. The July report of DHI informa tion for Maryland dairy herds includes the herd owner, the coun ty, the total number of cows in the herd and the average production per cow on a 3.5% fat corrected milk (FCM) basis for all milking cows in the herd. The herd must consist of at least 10 cows averag ing 60 lbs. or more of 3.5% FCM per cow per day. All of the herds are on official DHI or DHIR test. Also the lop herds in Maryland for Brown Swiss, Guernseys, Jerseys and Ayrshires arc included. Lisa, the daughter of Lloyd ai Laura Reiff, owns nine sheep. “But when I bought this one, picked him especially for dr fair,” she said. She purchased the slfeep April from B&B Livestock Ohio. She named him Chance, in anticipation of his being a good chance for a win at the fair. “I knew I had a good sheep, but I never expected to win,” she said. “It must be because I ran him every morning and night for exercise.” It was Lisa’s fourth year of showing. Last year one of her sheep was named grand champion at die Lampeter Fair. Twelve-year-old Lisa is a middle school student in the Lam peter Strasburg School District Groff’s Meats of Elizabethtown donated the massive trophy, which Lisa gets to keep for one year. To keep the trophy, she must win the competition for two consecutive years. So far, only one person at the fair has gotten supreme champ ion twice in a row. Nicki Wivil showed the grand champion Holstein that had a udder with high quality and real udder attachment according to the judges. Sarah Boyer of Ephrata showed the grand champion swine. The 250-pound Hampster barrow was extremely lean for its size and will make a tremendous loin and blade cuts according to Greg Musser, one of the judges.
