County Fair
“Would the bidding hold
throughout the hog sale?” was the
concern of a number of parents as
the junior livestock sale
continued.
It did, with William Campbell
bidding Ginger Kegg’s 218-pound
grand champ hog to $13.75.
American Outfitters quickly came
back with a $6.73 bid for the
reserve champ, breaking all previ
ously set records.
A smiling, Angie Gates picked
up $7.50 for her 152-pound
champion carcass when it was
bought by Bedford Farm Bureau.
Her brother Adam received $3.25
for the reserve carcass from Ben
Kendall, a Bedford CPA.
The price of pork did not drop.
The lowest price was $1.05. Hogs
were donated to local fire depart
ments, charitable organizations,
nursing homes, children and
youth. United Way, and Special
Olympics.
Young 4-H member Nathan
Claycomb showed a stunning

until it reached $8.50. For the third

bought by Bob Turkovich.
Claycomb will remain the own
er of die steer until the end of the
show road this summer, when he
will turn over the reins to the Bed

was made by Turkovich.
Claycomb also owned the
1,051-pound reserve grand, which
had all records smashed when it
was purchased by Jay Claycomb
of Water’s Edge Farm near
Everett for another $8.50. Clay
comb donated the steer to the
Morrison’s Cove Church of the
Brethren Home.
A 1,214-pound home bred
champion, owned by Kevin Miller
of Bedford, was bought by Fay
Leydig for the Dinner Bell
Restaurant in Hyndman for $3.10.
The county bred champ owned by
John Claycomb, Osterburg, was
bought by William Campbell for'
$2.10.

Jennifer Callihan for $0.85. Jay
Ryan’s reserve heavy weight
brought $0.83: Adam Talbert’s,
