Dick LeTrent bought the light weight champ for $4 a pound and then donated it to a local rest home. LeTrent bought a total of 10 animals throughout the sale, all of which he donated to local rest homes or schools. Kevin Miller’s reserve light weight champ brought $2.75 and the reserve middle class champ owned by Candace Crawford brought $1.50 per pound. Both were purchased by Giant Eagle, a local grocery store. The reserve heavy champ own ed by Nanette Whitfield went for $2; Shawn Miller’s grand champ carcass was bought for $8.25 a pound by Thomas Chevrolet; and Bedford Farm Bureau paid $8.50 a pound for the reserve grand champ carcass. The lamb prices remained high. It did, with William Campbell bidding Ginger Kegg’s 218-pound grand champ hog to $13.75. American Outfitters quickly came back with a $6.73 bid for the reserve champ, breaking all previ ously set records. A smiling, Angie Gates picked up $7.50 for her 152-pound champion carcass when it was bought by Bedford Farm Bureau. Her brother Adam received $3.25 for the reserve carcass from Ben Kendall, a Bedford CPA. The price of pork did not drop. The lowest price was $1.05. Hogs were donated to local fire depart ments, charitable organizations, nursing homes, children and youth. United Way, and Special Olympics. Young 4-H member Nathan Claycomb showed a stunning 1,229-pound grand champion black Angus to the crowd of anxi ous bidders and didn’t hear it stop until it reached $8.50. For the third year in a row, the champ was bought by Bob Turkovich. Claycomb will remain the own er of die steer until the end of the show road this summer, when he will turn over the reins to the Bed ford Lions Club. The donation was made by Turkovich. Claycomb also owned the 1,051-pound reserve grand, which had all records smashed when it was purchased by Jay Claycomb of Water’s Edge Farm near Everett for another $8.50. Clay comb donated the steer to the Morrison’s Cove Church of the Brethren Home. A 1,214-pound home bred champion, owned by Kevin Miller of Bedford, was bought by Fay Leydig for the Dinner Bell Restaurant in Hyndman for $3.10. The county bred champ owned by John Claycomb, Osterburg, was bought by William Campbell for' $2.10. Emerick’s Meat Market bought the middle weight champ from Jennifer Callihan for $0.85. Jay Ryan’s reserve heavy weight brought $0.83: Adam Talbert’s, reserve middle weight, $0.85; Angela Manges’ reserve light weight, $0.85; Brandi Shaw’s reserve home bred, $0.86; and Ginger Kegg’s, reserve county bred, $O.BB. The bidding on the rest of the steers remained about $0.85 throughout the sale. Clayton Winebark, Indiana auc tioneer, saw a total of $127,467.34 paid for S 3 lambs, 77 hogs, and 65
