This year’s Salisbury facility Field Day on July 19 holds solutions to such prob lems as sweet corn infestation and weed control in zucchini squash. The field day features concurrent wagon tours of research plots run ning from 4:15 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. Stops on Tour A, Pest Control, are (1) Evaluating various bio logical materials for suppression of the root knot nematode and nutrient value on green beans and cucumbers and (2) Validating insect trap catches as a predictor of insect infestation levels in fresh market sweet com. Stops on Tour B, Weed Control and Alternative Crops, are (1) The effectiveness of hairy vetch and subter ranean clover cover crop mulches on con trolling weeds in sweet corn and zucchini squash and (2) Perfor mance results on the lat est seedless and exotic melons. In addition to the wagon tours, a research walking tour is fea tured. Participants can view home vegetables, herb and rose gardens, vegetable variety plots, and irrigation equip ment at a leisurely pace. Moderators are posi tioned at each location to answer questions. There will also be equipment displays and demonstrations on a variety of subjects throughout the day. Food and refreshments may be purchased from local 4-H clubs.
