LATROBE (Westmoreland Co.) — The Westmoreland County 4-H Travel-All Club will sponsor ; their annual Salad Bar with enter tainment on Sunday, April 8, from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at the Greensburg 4-H Tractor Club Holds Banquet CHAMBERSBURG (Franklin Co.) The 37ih annual Franklin County 4-H Tractor Club Awards Banquet held at the Franklin County Vo-Tech School cafeteria on Thursday, March 15 was attended by more than 130 mem bers, parents, and guests, accord ing to county agent. Bill Reagan. The family style dinner was held to recognize the project club winners and to complete the annu al winter program that involved 45 members this year. Ihe first year group winners were recognized by club leaders Ronald Hissong, Mercersburg and Daryl Hawbaker, Greencastle. First place honors went to Jason Beery, Chambersburg; second to Luke Zaiger, Waynesboro; and third to Peter Byers, Mercersburg. Second year winners were rec ognized by club leader Roger Dice, Chambersburg, as follows: first place to Simon Zaiger, Waynesboro; second place to Sol omon Hess, Waynesboro; and third place went to Sammy Myers, Chambersburg. In the third year group, club leader Myron Young, Chambers burg recognized winners as fol lows: First place went to Jennifer Rosenberry, St. Thomas; second place to Melanie Burkholder, Chambersburg; and third place to Joshua Benchoff, Waynesboro. In addition, all third year mem bers who represent the graduating class were awarded individual 4-H tractor trophies in recognition of Sheraton Inn, Route 30 east of Greensburg. Ticket prices for the all-you can-eat salad bar are $5.50 for adults, $3.50 for children 6-12, and those 5 and under are free. Awards were made possible through the Franklin County 4-H development fund. The evening’s program was a tractor safety demonstration by Dr. Dennis Murphy, Penn State University agricultural engineer. HAPPENINGS Tickets are available from any club member or by calling 423-3066. The club members will be pro viding entertainment through music and skits. Other entertain ment for the day will include voc alist Annette Waller, country gos pel by Loose Change, and the 4-H Fashion Revue members will be modeling their projects from last year. Formalwear from El-Dawn Bridal in New Alex and die Tux edo Room in Latrobe will be mod eled by club members. Children’s wear from The Young At Heart in Mt. Pleasant will be modeled by younger family members and friends. Flowers will be provided by Lillies Of The Field in New Alex. Families of the 4-H members have donated many door prizes to be given away during the day. Proceeds horn the day will be used to defray costs of hosting the 4-H delegation from Rice County, Minnesota, this summer. Last summer, the Westmoreland Coun ty 4-H Travel-All Club traveled to Rice County and stayed with a family for a week. Now it is their turn to host their new friends and show them their county and sur rounding areas. Activities planned include farm tours, a visit to Smith Glass, an evening at Seven Springs, trips to Harrisburg and Pittsburgh and some free time for the members to show their visiting 4-H’er what is special in “their little comer” of the county. A wel coming party and a farewell picnic are also being planned. This demonstration utilizes a model tractor, built to l/20th scale, to graphically demonstrate backward tipping and side tip overs that occur frequently with farm tractors. Showing how to prevent tractor accidents is the major theme of this demon stration.
