Presenting his award Is former Virginia Angus Queen Patty Simpson, Buchanon. Large Turnout For Virginia Angus Meeting ST. JOSEPH, Mo.— A large turnout of members, some 150 strong, attended the 1990 annual meeting of the Virginia Angus Association in Roanoke. Besides officer and director elections, numerous members were honored during the banquet. A new slate of leaders was vot ed into office. Roger Steele, Troutville, was elected president; Jim Coffey, Weyers Cave, president-elect; and Ed Richard son, Louisa, treasurer. Tom Templeton, Charlottesville, will stay on as executive secretary of the association. Four new directors were elected to the board. They are Charles Cassell, Independence; Henry Morris, Chase City; Sue Rucker, Delaplane; and Bill Wampler, Harrisonburg. The awards presentation fol lowed the annual meeting, and the 1990 Virginia Angus Association Handbook was dedicated to Char les “Chilly” Peery, New Market, for his many years of service and contributions to the association. The Herdsman of the Year was Allen Taylor, herdsman for Gle nara Farm, Marshall. Phil Reid, Staunton, was named the Virginia Angus Promoter of the Year. David, Dianne, Jessica, and Cas sie Reed, Appomattox, were hon ored as the Virginia Angus Family of the Year. Several junior Angus members also received awards. Anne Jones, Forest, was named the Outstand ing Senior Member and William Federspiel, Powhatan, was hon ored as the Outstanding Junior Member. The Outstanding First Year Junior award went to Andrew Federspiel, Powhatan. The Ellen F. Ruddock Memor ial trophy was presented to North cote Farm, Forest. It is presented to the breeder who exhibits the supreme champion at the annual Breeders’ Show. T.D. and Roger Steele of Lynn Brae Farms, Roanoke, were hon ored at the banquet for being named the Virginia BCIA Seed stock Producers of the Year.
