Members of the 4-H horse and pony club and their families attended the 15th annual awards banquet last month at the 4-H center. The evening’s highlight was the awards presentation. Winning the high-point junior award was Laris sa Mellot. The senior award went to Rodney Garling. Four-H club pins went to Collette Collins, Shawn Collins, Beth Diehl, Brook Diehl, Rodney Garling, Julie Gay man, Heather Mellot, Larissa Mcl lot, Beverly Miller, Kathryn Rin ger, Theresa Shank, Mark Smith, and Aimee Wolgemuth. Awards were given to members with outstanding project books. Receiving the best novice project book award was*Julie Cayman with Aimee Wolgemuth and Mark Smith as runners up. The best Tiny Trotter project book award was given to Shawn Collins, while Beverly Miller received the best Tenderfoot project book with Lar issa Mellot, Collette Collins, and Kathryn Ringer as runners up. The best senior project book award was presented to Theresa Shank. Rod ney Garling was the runner up for the award. Receiving 60 points awards were Collette Collins, Rodney Carling, Julie Cayman, Larissa Mcllot, Beverly Miller, Kathryn Ringer, Theresa Shank, and Aimce Wolgemulh. The grand champion was exhibited by Eugene Hunt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Steve Hunt of East Berlin. The 10-pound 6-ounce capon was pur chased by Judy Stouck of War ren’s Heating and Cooling of Get tysburg at $32 per pound for a lot id of $332. Adams County 4-Wers Hold Capon Roundup chased by Bernard V. Miller of Gettysburg at $19.75 per pound for a total of $195.03. Edward Miller, chairman for this year’s show and sale, reported seven Adams County 4-H’ers par ticipated in the capon roundup, which was sponsored by the Cash town Lions Club, the Adams County Poultry Association, and the Adams County Cooperative Extension .Service. The members were judged on the Danish System by John Schwartz, multi-county extension poultry agent. The capons were evaluated on conformation, free dom from pin feathers, cuts, bruises, packaging and dressing procedure. Eric Moore, Tim Shelter, and Sally Shelter received red merit ribbons for exhibiting good-quality capons. Kristi Mummert, Adams Coun ty Poultry Queen, presented the trophies to the champions. The Adams County Poultry Associa tion purchased the trophies for roundup and purchased capons, which were donated to Green Acres for Thanksgiving.
