The State Jersey Sale, held Sep tember 27 in Harrisburg, featured 32 well-bred young cows for an average price of $1,042. Bon-Way Pride Top, sired by Molly Brook Brass Top and fea tured in many of the advertise ments for the bull, commanded the sale’s high price from buyer Donald Stonerook, of Martins burg. Sewed VG-81, Top is work ing on a record of 10,173 pounds of milk with a 5.1% test Her dam, sired by H.V.F. Pacesetter, boasts . selling jt jld consignment was Ralaine Royal Jester, who sold for $6OO to Ellen Norman of Liberty. Consignor Lori Sollenberger and David Norman, who entered the bid for his daughter, stand with the heifer, which is held by Leroy Hockenberry. Stonerook, pleased with his purchase, has. bought animals at past Jersey All American sales. Farming with Holsteins until 1982, Stonerook began adding Jerseys to his herd and continually is pleased with their efficiency and ease of handling. His current herd consists of 45 Jerseys and 20 Holstein and averages 13,157 pounds of milk, 689 pounds of butterfat, and 520 pounds of pro tein for the Jerseys and 18,900 milk, 728 fat, and 615 pounds of protein for the Holsteins. Vantage Duncan Susan brought a bid of $1,600 from Elroy Jerseys of Meyersdale. With a record of more than 14,149 pounds of milk and 678 pounds fat as a three-year-old record, on three times milking, Susan has a beautiful udder. She was con signed by Vantage Jerseys of Fre donia. Her new owner was also the volume buyer of the day, tak ing home five head to increase his herd of 35 Jerseys. Third high seller was another Duncan daughter, recently fresh, selling for $1,575 to Craig Rhein of Pine Grove. Bryncoed Duncan I-oh is a two-year-old Duncan with a Soldier Boy dam that has a record of more than 12,600 pounds of milk and a 4.7% test. She was consigned by Samuel Williams HI of Middletown.
