U.S. cigarette manufacturers purchased 515.9 million pounds of farm sales weight flue-cured tobacco from July 1, 1988 through June 30, (excluding pre-1985 loan stocks), according to an official of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Keith Njerke, administrator of USDA’s Agricultural Stabiliza tion and Conservation Service, said the manufacturers’ purchase intentions fo the 1988 crop were 441.4 million pounds. Actual purchases were 116.9 percent of intended purchase.
