The gilt is a littermate to the second place gilt at the Ohio State Fair. Ken Winebark of Lebanon added another win to his string with an open Hampshire gilt. His champion February Adidas daughter is out of Colts Belle 26-2, who is a littermate to the Farm Show’s highest-selling Hampshire gilt. Adidas was the 1987 Barrow Show Champion, and the gilt is a littermate to the reserve champion boar of the ’B9 Ohio State Fair. A Smoke 4-1 daughter was the champion Hampshire bred gilt showed by Lee Bixler and family of Four Oaks Farm in York Springs. The gilt is out of Cora 8-9, a Cal daughter. Showing the champion and reserve champion Hampshire boars was a father-son pair from Annville. Charlie and Daryl Bom gardner of Blue Mountain View Farms exhibited the January boars that caught judge Holloway’s eye. Charlie’s boar, a Classic son out of Miss Buster was named champion, while Daryl’s George son out of Werewolf was reserve. George sired last year’s Keystone Interna tional Livestock Exposition top cutting Hampshire, and Werewolf is Daryl’s youth project. Another father-son combination took top honors in the Yorkshire open gilt competition. Charlie Hall of Julian ran a January LLA7 Ultra daughter before the judge, who named her champion. Daryl Bom gardner of Annville entered the top bid of $320 for the gilt, making it the event’s top-selling open gilt. Taking the reserve champion ship Yorkshire title was Marie Hall’s February PSU7 Step Up 1-5 daughter out of CBH7 Pride. Leon Arnold of Lebanon exhi bited the champion Yorkshire bred gilt, a September ’BB daughter of Ultra out of Lucy 63-2. The gilt is bred to Puff, who Arnold pur chased at the first Rural Pork Expo in Des Moines. Lucy has had four litters and farrowed 51 piglets of which 50 were weaned. Arnold’s champion was the show’s top selling bred gilt and sold for $5OO to Keith Martin of Hamstead, Md. The champion Yorkshire boar was led out by Jack Clark of Hus tontown. The hog is a January son of WGW7 Stetson out of JESS Miss Toto. Mountain View Farm of Fayetteville must have liked the boar as it paid $750 for it, making it the show’s top-selling boar. *bS/ X A total of 69 head were shown and sold for $13,350.
