Traskdale Pete An Bast, a five year-old belonging to Dale Hps tetter and Tom Lyon of Annville, was named the grand champion of the Eastern Pennsylvania Champ ionship Holstein Show held August 23 at the Kutztown Fairgrounds. Judge Genie Francisco was quite impressed with the big ani mal. “She is a tall animal with the best udder in the show. She has very correct legs and tracks well. She also shows cleanliness around the hocks,” she said. An Bast is a Straight-Pine Elevation Pete daughter bred by Preston Trask. Francisco followed the five year-old with a dry four-year-old. Ginger, a junior champion at the Pennsylvania Farm Show two years ago, was the most correct looking cow in the youth show, according to Francisco. Patricia Miller’s seven-year old, M-Maplegrove Valiant Melone-ET, received reserve hon ors. Melone, named the best 4-H animal in the state two years ago, won the 100,000-Ib. class, and milked 110,000 lbs. as of her last lactation. Penn Gate Enhancer Flashie, an intermediate yearling, was tops in the junior show much to the plea sure of her owners Steve and Chris Wood. “She could be a" reserve All-Pennsylvania selection,” Steve added. Coredale Holsteins picked up the reserve with Core dale Steady Jodee, an intermediate calf. In the youth division, Lebanon County Dairy Princess Kynel Bomgardner was thrilled to have the junior champion. Loving Mea dows Mint, a senior calf. “My dad is judging in Perry County today and he said not to be too disap pointed if we didn’t win anything. He’ll sure be surprised,” she said.
