A drizzling rain may have kept Ron nie Milsap fans away from the Kutztown Fair Tuesday night but it couldn’t slow the area’s farm families down. Parents, grandpa rents, aunts, uncles and cousins lined the show ring to watch the youngsters compete in the fair’s Colored Breeds Show. Randy Balthaser, Bemville R.D. 1, had a banner evening. His Brown Swiss aged cows Windmill Balison Gilda and Victory Acres Weslley Nadie were named the Grand and Reserve champions for the breed. His senior calf, North kill Creek N-Oreo was the reserve junior champion for the open show with Northkill Creek Cus tom Hazel, an intermediate calf, getting the reserve honors in the youth division. While Randy took home the ribbons it was his younger brother Jason that got the real prize. His junior two-year-old Northkill Creek ESP Nifty gave birth to a heifer named Nexus just an hour after the show had ended. It was quite a birthday present for Jason who turned 14 the same day. Pinesedge Farm had the junior champion of the open show. Sam Yoder, better known as a promoter of the Milking Shorthorn breed, was very pleased with the honor. “It’s the first Brown Swiss we ever bred. She’s kind of spoiled,” he explained. The Vail family of Myerstown also had a good daya t the fair but instead of ending with a calf it began that way as daughter Jill’s three-year-old Brown Swiss also gave birth to a heifer named Lind sey. Later in the evening Jill’s mom, Karen exhibited her 4-year old, Ayrshire, Timbcrlawn Star brighFs Roxy who was honored as the breed’s grand champion. Son Jed had the junior champion, a junior calf. Chris Blatt was also busy pick ing up ribbons with his reserve grand champion, and reserve junior champion in the open show as well as die grand and reserve champion in the youth show. The Hoch Family was waiting for a calf but Blossom, a perky litde Jersey, waited until the next day to arrive. In the meantime Denise Hoch won the Jersey grand championship with her aged cow, Irish Creek Deni M. Giggles. John Koinski followed with his junior two-year-old, Irish Creek Stone Chocolate. Junior honors went to Jennifer Neiman and her junior yearling, while Suzanne Dietrich’s interme diate calf was the reserve. Susan. Amy and Daniel Hollen bach dominated the Guernsey breed. Susan’s 9-year-old, Almira of Mountview, was the grand champion while her dry cow Blue Mtn. View Admiral Angie, was chosen as the reserve. Amy’s junior yearling was the junior champion followed by brother Dan’s intermediate calf. Pinesedge Farm also had a number of Milking Shorthorn winners including aU the champ ions and reserves of the open show. Pinesedge Lassy Nilla, a dry cow, was named the champion of the event. In the youth division Dwayne Brensinger’s junior calf took top honors followed by an intermedi ate yearling belonging to Eliot Reimert. Both animals were bred by Pinesedge Farms. Denise Hoch’s aged cow, Irish Creek Deni M. Giggles, Am V Hollenbach’s junior yearling, Blue Mtn. View Ronda topped the Jersey breed at the Kutztown Fair.
