York County Horse It was a hot and humid but at least the traditional thunderstorms stayed away for the 1989 York County 4-H horse and pony round up. The roundup, held earlier this month, featured 85 4-H’crs com peting in 34 classes to see who would compete in the district con test, which will be held today. The counties that will be competing are Adams, Cumberland, Franklin, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon, York, and Perry. A partial listing of the results from die county roundup follows. RAISED BOX KEYHOLE Horse Bowl, On Thursday, July 27th, Lan caster County hosted the District VI 4-H Competition in Horse Bowl and hippology, in prepara tion for the state competition Aug. 7,8, and 9 at Penn State Universi ty. District VI is comprised of Lancaster, Lebanon, York, Cum berland, Dauphin, Adams and Franklin Counties. Horse Bowl Teams are made up of four mem bers, who compete as a team, as well as individuals, and are scored on how many correct answers they give to questions asked having to do with horses. Questions range from trivia to quite technical in nature. The Horse Bowl competi tion was conducted by Zoann Parker, Lancaster County 4-H Agent, and her summer-time assistant, Chris McCharon. Hippology literally translates to study of the horse, but as a com petition is comprised of a four part competition involving judg ing, identification, testing and problem solving. Knowledge of all aspects of the horse’s world is required.
