Price support was attributed to talk of increased demand with Turkey interested in 375,000 metric ton nes and other smaller deals in the works. The USDA announced a sale of 110,000 metric tonnes of hard red wheat to Iraq after . today’s close. News that an announcement would be made today concerning indictments on the investigation into trading abuses at the CBT kept many trad ers on the sidelines. September settled today at $3.90-1/4 after trading in a range from $3.87-1/4 to $3.91-1/2. ACRES CATTLE UPDATE: Live cattle closed sharply higher while feeders posted moderate gains. Price support was linked to a firmer tone in the cash markets and late short covering. Prices for fed cattle today were $ .50 higher with today’s rally in futures expected to boost cash prices to $72.50 by the end of the week. Opening support was tied to an increase in beef cutout values yes terday. Feeders were higher on spillover support from live cattle with gains pared in the spot August by commission house sales. ACRES HOG UPDATE: Live hog futures settled nicely higher this afternoon with gains posted from $ .38 to $1.23/cwt higher. Support was attributed to firming cash fundamentals and commis sionhouse fund related short covering. Early strength was tied to reports of lighter than expected runs and expectations fbr a con tinued strengthening this week in cash markets. Bellies closed high er on spillover from live hogs and short-covering in response to ideas the pit was oversold. Steady quotes midday added further sup port. October live hogs were boosted by technical buying after buy stops were activated near $39.75/cwt.
