Penn State, the Adams County Beef Producers Association and the Pennsylvania Charolais Asso ciation are co-sponsoring the event, which starts at 9:00 a.m. and runs through the afternoon. The event features demonstra tions by 25 exhibitors of perma nent electric fence designs, irriga tion systems and other items. There will be a judging contest and a discussion of show-calf types. Morning and afternoon tours will include the Gettysburg Battlefield, Eisenhower Farm’s cattle operations and Mason- Dixon Farms, a 1300-cow opera tion noted for innovative building designs and progressive technology. A first at this year’s field day will be the introduction of Key stone Rib-Eye on a Roll, prepared by the Pennsylvania Cattlemen’s Association Directors in coopera tion with the Pennsylvania Beef Council. There will be a small charge for the lunch. Speakers at this year’s event include Ray Grimes, Dennis Byme, Nancy Scott Bushy and Bob Tibbs, beef producers from various regions of Pennsylvania and Maryland. They will emphas ize the flexibility of beef opera tions combined with other farm operations or a full-time job off the farm. Glenn D. Dr. John Comerford, assistant professor of animal science at Penn State, will report on a comparative study of beef and holstein steers fed diffe rent forage proportions and pro tein sources. Dr. Lowell L. Wil son, Penn State professor of ani mal science, and Ray Grimes will co-chair the event. “We would like to invite everyone interested in cattle—producers, marketing personnel and those who just like to eat and talk beef,” says Wilson. The Berks County Cattlemen’s Association will be sponsoring a bus trip to the event. All interested beef and dairy cattle producers are invited to join the tour, regardless of membership in the Berks Coun ty Cattlemen’s Association, said Miller.
