While crop insurance parti cipation varies from the national average of about 25 percent, from 2.9 percent in Maryland to 75 per cent in Montana, growers have expressed dissatisfaction with the structure of currently offered fed eral insurance packages. It’s in this light that the depart ment of agricultural and resource economics at the University of Maryland at College Park announces a $lOO,OOO cooperative research project with the Com modity Economics Division of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Economic Research* Service. This intensive survey will allow an explicit comparison of Maryland crop insurance pat terns with national patterns.
