(Kika) de la Garza (D-Tex.), Chairman of the House Agricul ture Committee, said Thursday that farmers should take tt harder look at purchasing crop insurance this year since the federal govern ment may not be able to afford another drought assistance bill like the one passed in 1988. De la Garza spoke Thursday morning after a special weather briefing for the House Agriculture Committee by the U.S. Department of Agri culture’s chief meteorologist. De la Garza had also raised the specter of continued drought con ditions during his opening re marks at the House Agriculture Committee’s organizational meet ing earlier this month.
