Angus Honors Go To York And Bucks Breeders Rains Star Buck LS4I7 owned by Dale Rains of Mercer County captured the grand championship of State Farm Show Angus competition. HARRISBURG (Dauphin) GH2 Associates of York County was named the premier breeder of the Angus Breeding Cattle Show at the 73rd Pennsylvania Farm Show. Dr. Joseph Calderazzo, wife Sally and daughter Jennifer of RD 9, York, brought six animals to the Farm Show and bred two other animals that were exhibited here. Jennifer exhibited the champion senior heifer calf, “Ms Elba Salecn of GH2” and the reserve champion bull calf, “GH2 Villanova.” They’ve had numerous champ ions at the Farm Show since 1983. Twelve-year-old Jennifer, a mem ber of the York County Baby Beef Club, is in her fourth year showing at the Farm Show. She has two heifers entered in Thursday’s junior competition. Presently, there are 105 head of Angus on their Greystone Farm. They do embryo transplant work and some of the cows are reci pients for their embryo program. Putting credit where credit is due, the Calderazzo’s said, “We wouldn’t have won if it weren’t for Brenda Walter, our herdsper son for the entire operation. She does an extremely good job, 365 days a year... she does all our breeding, feeding and traveling.” Angus Female Grand Champion Taken By Kyle Warren/Genetics Unlimited Top honors in the Angus Show went to Kyle Warren of Furlong, Bucks County. She was shown by Day Sweigard who at 25 has 17 years of show manship experience and was 4th in the National Jr. Angus Show manship Contest. Premier-Exhibitor Rocky Forge Farm Premier Breeder GH2 Angus Associates Metzlers, Darcys Dominate Show Salunga Acres of Lancaster County earned the premier breeder and premier exhibi tor awards for the Polled Hereford show of the 73rd Pennsylvania State Farm Show In Harrisburg last week. HARRISBURG (Dauphin) A Lancaster County family won 17 ribbons during Polled Hereford judging at the 73rd State Farm Show in Harrisburg. George and Dorothy Metzler of Mount Joy exhibited 11 animals at the show. With help from daughter Deb Hess, son-in-law Robert Hess and grandson John, the Metzlers gathered ribbons for exhibiting the reserve grand champion female, the reserve junior champion female, the junior champion bull and the reserve senior champion bull. The Metzlers and Hesses oper ate Salunga Acres, south of Mount Joy. Salunga Acres was named premier breeder and premier exhi bitor of the Polled Hereford show. The 1989 competition was the fifth Farm Show for Salunga Acres. Adams County Farm Show’s Grand Champion Frank Darcy’s Spring Bottom Farm of Fairfield, Adams County, exhibited the grand champion heifer at the Polled Hereford show, a senior yearling named “Spring Bottom Farm Royal Next step.” Spring Bottom Farm has been exhibiting at the Pennsylvania Royal Blackbird of GU captured the Anusg grand champ ion female title at the 73rd Pennsylvania State Farm Show in Harrisburg last week. Blackbird is the early summer year ling heifer owned by Warren Angus and Genetics Unlimited in Chester County.
