CMancamr Farming, Saturday, January 14,1989 Belgian Junior Champs Steal The Show BY PAT PURCELL HARRISBURG (Dauphin) Two outstanding junior champion stallions stole the show during the Belgian draft horse contest at the 1989 Pennsylvania State Farm Show on Monday In the stallion competition class winnings were split between Arthur E. Reist of Lancaster coun ty and Lewis Biddle and family of Centre county. The junior champion, Seneca Valley Jeff, of the Biddle family captured the grand champion hon ors. According to Todd Biddle, showman, SV Jeff has never been beaten in Pennsylvania or Ohio. Jeff was the champion at the Key stone International Livestock Show held in Harrisburg in Octob er. The Biddle’s purchased Jeff as a foal in 1986, the day before the Ohio Fair to win his class the next day and has been winning for the Biddle family ever since. He was sired by Seneca Valley Chant to Lopu Ida Seybert. The Reists’ reserve junior champion Kyle’s Excalibur, the oldest in the l-to-2 year stallion class was named the reserve grand champion. He was sired by Oak land’s Kyle to J-K Congress. This is a home-bred winner for the Reist brothers. This young champion will be sold at the sale in Colum bus, Ohio next month. However, it was Concord’s Conquest, the second placed stal lion of Larry B. Omdorff Sr. of Adams County who took the reserve senior champion title. In the Belgian mare contest the tradition continues for Omdorff s Belgians of Greene County. For more than 40 years this family has been receiving accolades for their breeding success since their grand father, Charles, started it all in 1948. Corbly L. Omdorff and sister Christina O. Lemley carried on the winning ways of the Omdorffs Belgians by capturing four class wins and five championship titles. Belgian show judge Tim King of Fremont, Ohio, tapped 5-year old Omdorffs Highland Brandy for the senior and grand champion ship honors. Brandy was sired by Confidents Red Man to Omdorffs H Lassie. Omdorffs Belgians exhibited the grand champion last year in the 1988 State Farm Show. The 2-year-old winner was Om- BY PAT PURCELL HARRISBURG (Dauphin) The 73rd Pennsylvania State Farm show drew some tough competi tion in the Pcrcheron contest. Last year the Allebachs of Centre County swept all but three titles in both the Clydesdale and Percheron competitions of the 1988 State Farm Show. This year it was a different story. However, the AUebach family, as usual made a great showing of their breeding expertise. They exhibited eight of the 12 champions named in the Percheron competition. Show judge Richard Lee of Hil bert, Wisconsin, went to Winder mere’s Laddy for his grand champ ion stallion. This two-year-old was sired by Blackhome Duke to MEF Miss Jacqueline and is owned by Gerald Allebach. Laddy was also named the junior champion stallion of the show. Reserve grand champion of the Percheron stallion contest went to Allebach’s Windermere’s Cea- dorff s Supreme Debbie. Deb' sired by Congolaise Supreme to Connie’s Lori, took the junior champion on her way to taking the grand reserve title in the Belgian mare contest Shirley and Jerry Ray of Indiana County kept Corbly and Christina Omdorff from making a clean sweep in the mare competition. Show judge King went back to his 5-year-and over class for his reserve senior champion. The Rays’ SJF Maybelline, the second place winner in the S-year and over class took the reserve title. • OmdorfTs Supreme Unity, the winner in the 1-year class took the reserve junior title. 1. Reserve senior champion went to Coady’s Creejc College Jack exhibited by H. Lee Brown of Oxford in Chester County. The Percheron grand champion mare was a repeat of the 1988 State Farm Show. The Allebach’s Win dermere’s Roxanne, took the title again. Roxanne is the offspring of Giron’s Mr. T and Jeremiah’s Roxic. Buckeye Gypsy Rose took the reserve grand title. Also owned by the Allebachs, this 2-year-old was sired by Mi Marcus to Buckeye D Jacqueline. Rose took the junior champion title also.
