Louganis Stars
For Sauder’s Eggs
LANCASTER Olympic
diving champion Greg Louganis
was in Lancaster and Mechanics
burg this week to produce a series
of TV commercials for Sauder’s
Eggs of Lititz. The commercials
are part of an ambitious promotion
program to gain brand recognition
for Sauder’s, one of the North
east’s largest marketers of eggs.
Paul Sauder, president of the
firm, said Louganis is an ideal
spokesman for his company.
“Greg is articulate, he’s know
ledgeable about nutrition, he’s a
great athlete and he ate lots of
eggs while he was training for the
Olympics.
“Eggs are a wholesome and
natural food. A certain amount of
medical folklore has cast eggs in
the role of cholesterol villain. I
think that’s unjust, especially with
the Sauder’s brand of lower
cholesterol eggs. Greg is going to
help us get our story out to the
public.”
Sauder said Sauder’s Eggs have
a cholesterol content of 195 milli
grams or less per large white egg.
“That’s 25 percent lower than the
272-milligrams-per-egg figure
used by most nutritionists, doctors
and food writers,” said Sauder.

By producing eggs that are low
er in cholesterol, Sauder said he
hopes to recapture some of the
consumers who have stayed away
from eggs. “The egg is filled with
vitamins and minerals. It is the
best source of high quality protein
available in any food. It’s also low
in calories and very low in satur
ated fats, the real cholesterol
villain.”
Paul Sauder and his brother,
Glenn, are the third generation to
operate the family-owned firm.
Their grandfather began the busi
ness in the 1930 s by selling Lan
caster County poultry and eggs
door to door in Philadelphia.
Today, nearly all the eggs mark
eted by the Sauders are still pro
duced in Lancaster County.
The three TV spots featuring
Greg Louganis were produced by
a team from Mel Horst Advertis
ing Services, Winner, Pa. One of
the spots was shot at the Willow
Valley Convention Center just
south of Lancaster, while the other
two were filmed by cinematogra

in Mechanicsburg. The spots will
begin airing in mid-Febuary on
stations serving the southcentral
