C2-Lancasier Fanning, Saturday, October i, 1988 Junior Western Horse Two girls named Stephanie -- from the upper and lower reaches of the Potomac River -- com manded several top placings in the junior western 4-H horse and pony show Aug. 28 at the Maryland State Fair in Timonium! Stephanie Wilt, 13, of Boons boro in Washington County and her 15-year-old Quarter Horse gelding, “Solid Gold Story,” placed first in two conformation and equitation classes. They also captured two firsts and a second in the performance classes. A month earlier, Stephanie had been a member of the Washington County team which placed first in intermediate-age 4-H horse and pony judging during the Maryland 4-H Roundup at the state fairground. Meanwhile, Stephanie Lange, 9, of Nanjemoy in Charles County and her 13-year-old Quarter Horse-Morgan mare pony, “Truf fles,” placed second in an equita tion class and captured two firsts in the performance classes. Stephanie’s sister, Sharon Lange, 12, finished first in a con formation class, second in an equi tation class and first in a perfor mance class with her 11-year-old Quarter Horse mare, “Daisy Morn ing Star.” Two Baltimore County sisters from Carney also did well. Jennif er Pearce, 11, and her three-year old POA mare, “Lady Supreme,” earned two firsts and two seconds in the pony classes. Amy Lein, 13, of Joppa, won firsts in a conformation class and in grooming and showmanshaip with her two-year-old POA geld ing, “NDS Licorice Bits.” Amy also won first in the keyhole race for horses with “Toe the Line Toby,” an eight-year-old Appaloo sa gelding. Amy lives in Harford County, but is a Baltimore County 4-H member. Two Carroll County sisters from Silver Run won honors in the horse classes with their Appaloosas. Eri ka Wunderlich, 10, earned two second-place finishes in confor mation and equitation classes. Courtney Wunderlich, 9, placed third in an equitation class - directly behind her sister - and second in a performance class. With a 16-year-old Appaloosa mare, Hilary Griffith, 13, of Gaith ersburg placed first in two perfor mance classes. Her horse was named “Cinnamin Sprinkles.” Hil ary lives in Montgomery County but is a Frederick County 4-H member. Meanwhilc, two sisters from St. Charles (Charles County) garnered first-place ribbons with their Appaloosa geldings.
