Feeder Calf Sale To Be Held MERCER The Fall Feeder Calf Sale is scheduled for Thurs day, October 6 at 7:00 p.m. at the jMercer Livestock Auction, 1-1/2 piles north of Mercer on Route 19. ' There have been some major Changes in the sale for 1988: ‘ * Calves will not be graded, but will be sorted by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture graders; * Calves will not be co mingled. Basically, each lot sold will consist of only one producers’ calves, Calves will be received on Thursday, October 6 from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Please cooperate with us in getting the cattle in by the 3:00 time schedule. By Clair Engle Penn State Plans for the third annual She pherds Symposium have been finalized for the up coming prog ram on November 18 and 19. This year’s symposium will be held at the Hyatt Pittsburgh, at Chatham Center in Pittsburgh. In addition to having two princi ple topics a series of workshop ses sions have been scheduled for the two day event. Some of these break-out sessions will permit learning in the areas of 1) Wool classing 2) How to catch that prob lem predator 3) Selecting the right spinning wheel 4) Building a pre dator control fence S) Basics for starting a home-base craft business 6) Breeding systems for lean lamb production 7) Developing your own lamb marketing program and 8) New directions for Pennsylvani a wool. The Pennsylvania Sheep and Wool Growers Association in cooperation with the American Sheep Producers Council are plan ning a special Friday evening program, November 18. The lamb o-rama will feature a generous supply of lamb hors d’oeuvres being promoted in the hotel and restaurant trade throughout the country.
