Breeding Swine Show
champion Hampshire barrow
shown by Carolyn Thomas as the
show’s supreme champion bar
row; the reserve champion Spotted
gilt exhibited by James Parlett &
Sons as the supreme champion
gilt; and the champion Duroc boat
owned by David Holloway as the
supreme champion boar.
The champion Spotted female,
shown by Ron Trestle, was ineligi
ble to compete for the supreme
champion gilt title because she was
a sow.
Parlett and Holloway faced stiff
competition in the Duroc division,
which was the show’s largest
category, but came out on top with
Parlett having the champion and
reserve champion sow as well as
the reserve champion boar. Hollo
way had the champion boar and
champion barrow. The reserve
champion barrow slot went to Tho
mas Frantz.
Rodger Banket! and Parlett
traded off the top honors in the
Chester White boar and sow posi
tions, with Parlett showing both
champion and reserve champion
barrows. Banker! exhibited the
champion sow and reserve champ
ion boar, while Parlett added the
purple rosette for the champion
boar and the pink rosette for the
reserve champion sow to his
collection.
Five out of the six top spots in
the Berkshire competition went to
the Cornbower family. Both
champion sow titles were taken by
Russell Cornbower as were both
champion barrow titles. The
champion boar was exhibited by
Arlie and Russell Cornbower,
while Daniel J. Hartman went
home with the reserve champion
boar.
John Strawbridge dominated
the Hampshire and Yorkshire
shows going home with a carload
of blue and red ribbons. His main
competition in the Hampshire divi
sion was Carolyn Thomas, whose
champion barrow went on to
become the show’s supreme
champion. All other champion and
reserve champion ribbons went to
Strawbridge. In the Yorkshire
division the reserve champion boar
was exhibited by Wilson Yor
shircs, while the reserve champion
barrow was owned by Jeff Stern.
Strawbridge exhibited the remain
ing champions and the reserve
champion sow.
Ron Trostle claimed the most
champion and reserve champion
honors in the Spotted competition.
He showed the reserve champion
boar, champion sow, and reserve
champion barrow. A barrow
shown by Parlett was named the
champion Spotted barrow, while
one of his sows also was selected
as champion. The champion boar
honors went to Larry Robinson.
The Poland titles all went to
Kenneth Bauer, who faced no
competition. Tunnel Hill Farm
showed the top six animals in the
Landracc division.
