It’s happen ing on Saturday, August 27, from 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m., in down town Shippensburg, Pa. The Shippensburg Com Festi val will take you back to Colonial times when lye soap was made over an open flame and when blacksmiths worked the iron into horseshoes, wheels and other needed items. You can also see working stills and small steam engines. You can get an idea of how Colonial women made clothes as you watch the fleece to shawl and quilting demonstrations. The all-day Com Festival also includes family fun for all ages. Music lovers can listen to Sweet Heritage, a trio of women who play traditional instruments and sing. They also can be entertained by the jazz group. Hot House, the Cornerstone Quartet, the Ship pensburg Town Band and strolling musicians throughout the day. The Valley Bam Dancers also will dis play clogging square dancing for onlookers. For the youngsters in the family there will be wagon rides, story tellings and a petting zoo. Athletes can take part in the first Pennsylvania Triad (swimming, biking, marching) that will be sponsored by the Cumberland Val ley Lead-Foot Club. There also will be an early morning biathlon. Of course, the Com Festival wouldn’t be a com festival without “com foods” and crafts. So, food vendors will be selling their foods, and craftmakcrs will be selling their crafts.
