    Jersey Sale Has $2225 Top

SHIPPENSBURG The
Cumberland Valley Jersey Breed- -
ers Sale, held Saturday, July 2nd,
at the Shippensburg Fairground,
again underscored the strong
demand for Jerseys in the area. The
sale averaged $1193.93 on 33 head
of cows and springing heifers and
$571.66 on 9 calves, for a curnmu
lative average of 1090.25 on the 42
lots sold.
Topping the sale at $2225.00
was the consignment of John
Bishop 6th, Columbus, NJ, Ogston
Top Brass Leanore. Fresh in May
with her second calf and milking
over 60 pounds daily, this fancy
young A-Nine Top Brass daughter
looked every point of her VG score
plus a few more. Her credits also
included a record at 2-00 286 days
of 13,416 pounds of milk and 612
pounds of butterfat.

the 1986 Waverly Invitational
Sale. The next dam back was also
scored VG and has records of
19,590 pounds of milk, 758
pounds of butterfat, and 637
pounds of protein.
The purchaser was Melanie
Houser, New Oxford, PA. Melanie
adds this fancy young Ogston cow
to a half-dozen other Jerseys she is
housing with her parents 60 cow
Holstein herd. She plans to show
her and possibly do some embryo
transfer work with her.
Second high selling cow com
manded a price of $1750.00 from
Gerald Hart, Mifflintown, PA. He
purchased W.F. Persistence
Mailed, an Excellent Saint Persis
tence daughter consigned by
George Doody Jr., Clearbrook,
VA. Malted’s effort to date was at
3-09 311 days with 12,847 pounds
of milk, 618 pounds of butterfat,
and 473 pounds of protein. Her
dam was scored VG 88% with
records over 15,000 pounds of
milk and 661 pounds of butterfat.
The next dam back was W.F. Sur
ville Mimosa EX 90% who sold in
the 1978 All-American Jersey
Sale.
Hart also paid the second high
telling price of the day $1700.00,
for Little Pond Jeff Marie. This
daughter of Smokey Hill Saint Jeff
was consigned by Calvin Watson,
Troy, PA. Fresh just the day before
the sale with her second calf, Mar

March heifer calf donated by Max
Spann, Heron Run Farm,
Washington, NJ, was sold with
Lancaster Farming, Saturday, July 9, 1999-A37
entire proceeds going to benefit the
Ist Pennsylvania Two-Yr-Old
Jersey Futurity. This special class
will be making its debut at the 2Sth
PA All-American Show to be held
this September in Harrisburg.
This fancy Junior Calf was sired
by IMP. Golden Munifordias
Noble and was out of a VG 85%
Silver Beacon dam with records to
11,420 pounds of milk, 620
pounds of butterfat, and 468
pounds of protein. Larry Stone,
Carlisle, PA, paid $525.00 for this
good pedigreed young calf.
