Tery was chosen from the five young ladies from across the coun ty competing for the title. Miss Kizer received an $l5O cash award and will represent Tio ga County in the Pennsylvania Slate Dairy Princess Pageant, Sep tember 22-24th at the Harrisburg Marriott. Bridget Callahan, also 17, was named first alternate. Bridget is the daughter of John and Judy Calla han of RD, Canton. Second alter nate is Bryonna lanson of RD, Middlcbury Center. Bryonna is the 17-ycar-old daughter of Bryan and Donna lanson. Tory received her crown from 1987-88 Tioga County Princess, Jennie Groover, of Canton, during the annual ceremony. Tery is a 4-H member and enjoys showing cattle, riding horses, four-wheeling and riding bike. She will be a senior at Elk land High School in the fall. Her activities at school include Drama Club, Track, Elkland Youth Edu cation Association, PA Jr. Jersey Cattle Club District 4 advisor. The Kizer family farm, Far mington Hill Jerseys, is 25-acres with 55 Jersey cows. In addition Tcry owns 7 Jerseys. The family has been on the farm for 8 years. The Taylor Farm of Roaring Branch was presented with the PA Dairy of Distinction Award during the pageant. The Taylors own 233-acres and rent an additional 100. They milk 44 Holstcins and have approximately 35 heifers. The Taylors have been on the farm for over 40 years. Pageant judges were, Mrs. Terri Madigan of Towanda, Pa, a dairy farmer and co-chairmen of Brad ford Co. Dairy Day; Mrs. Renee Robinson of Arkport, New York a dairy farmer and Public Relations Manager for United Dairy Cooperative; and Lou Herman of Waverly, New York the Lab Man ager for Eastern Milk Producers Cooperative. Entertainment at the pageant was provided by the Mansfield Men’s Chorus. The Chorus delighted the crowd with their own special rendition of “Get Me To The Church On Time”. The Chor us’ version started out with, “I’m going milking in the morning...”. The Tioga County Dairy Day Festival started out with a 10K Dairy Dash co-sponsored by the Mansfield Kiwanis. The Over-all male winner was Ed Clark of Horsehcads. Winner of the over all women’s division was Louise Young of Tioga. Prizes to the win ners included a basket of dairy pro ducts donated by Greco’s Super Dupcr. A parade featuring marching bands and numerous floats was held in downtown Mansfield. The Canyon Squares, a group of dancers from the Mansfield and Wellsboro area, presented a mod em square dance demonstration in Smythe Park during the afternoon.
