Members answered roll call by relating what they appreciate about their sweetheart. Martha Jane Brubaker and Edna Shearer attended the state conve tion and gave a comprehensive Lancaster Farm Women #2O met February 4 at Vera Heir’s home; Jean Ressel served as co-hostess. The 22 mem bers present responded to roll call by telling of their first date. In business, the food stand at the horse race at Andrews Bridge on March 19 was discussed and plans made. After refreshments were served, Miriam Byers, president, conducted the business meeting. Bea Newswanger, secretary, reported a total of 269 hours in ser vice to the Heart Association. The next meeting will be at Jane Ferguson’s home at 10 a.m. Members are to bring a cov ered dish a something green in a bag, which then will be exchanged. Society 25 Katherine Daveler came to all meetings and functions in 1987 and received a gift. Bea Newswan ger received the group’s surprise gift. The March meeting will at Bea Newswanger’s home. Members will decide upon a county project at that time. The meeting will fea ture a safely program on poison control. apaci Berks Society 1 Farm Women Society 1 met for lunch at the Oley Legion Diner on February 10. Twelve members answered roll call, each describing what they do when they can’t get out of the house. Dr. John Patt, collector of anti que music boxes, was the guest speaker. He showed members four music boxes from his collection, detailing their history, which began in Switzerland. Members exchanged paper bags containing something red, follow ing a Valentine’s Day theme. The next meeting will be at Esther Bumdt’s Reading home. Berks Society 3 The Society of Farm Women #3 held Us January meeting at Mary Hill’s home in Boyertown. Regina Moyer reported on the state con vention, which three of the group’s members attended. Members decided to buy $5O worth of groceries to be donated to the Soup Kitchen in Reading. Diane Eddy was installed as a new member. The next meeting will be at Dor is Pollock’s home. Berks Society 9 The February meeting of Farm Women #9 met in the home of Pat Haas in Weavertown. Ten mem bers were present to hear Gary Steppler of Ches-Mont Carpets, discuss choosing and caring for carpets. Kim Payne, director of com munity and medial relations for the Potts town Memorial Medical Cen ter, was the evening’s speaker. He gave a slide presentation of the facility and explained the function of various units. In addition, he discussed the center’s renovations and plans for expansion. President Feme Kulp conducted the business meeting. Roll call was answered by naming a song title with the word “red” m it. Mary Fizz reported on the state convention. The Spring rally will be held in Altoona, with five mem bers planning to attend. The Berks Hiem volunteer rec ognition dinner will be held at the annex in March. Marguerite Rush volunteered to make to red and white centerpieces for the xcasion. The group will host a game par ty for the Hiem annex residents on April 14. A motion was made to present a monetary gift to the Clouser family, whose home was lost in a recent fire. The next meeting will be held at Elsie Rotherberger’s home in Boy ertown. At that meeting crafts will be made to be given to Meals-On- Wheels recipients. York Society 26 Farm Women #26 met at Bertolette. Members viewed an educational film produced by Metropolitan Edison Co. and watched a demonstration given by James Bogcr. The business pan >f the meeting was called to order by Allcnc Lentz, president. Roll call was answer by members who contri buted a fact about Thomas Edison. The group decided to donate $5O to the Cedar Haven Bed Pad Project. The next meeting is set for March 10. Members will meet at Cedar Haven, where they will entertain guests in wing 3-D of the home.
