XXX A Public Auction of real estate and farm machinery was held January 2 for the J. Har lan Burkhart Estate, between Leola and Far mersville. West Earl Twp., Lancaster Coun ty, Pa. There were 728 registered bidders at the sale although a large crowd of about 2500 attended the auction. An outstanding price of $7636 per acre was paid for the 77 acre tract of land which had been in the Burkhart family for four generations. Christ Lapp of Cenler ville Road paid $588,000 for the proper ty which included 2 houses, frame bam with attached tobacco shed, 2- dairy barn, attached milk house, 3- garage and equip ment storage building. A recent Lancaster County Agricultural Preserve Board study reported sales prices for Eastern Lancaster County farms averaged $5229 an acre between 1984 and 1986.
