The Omdorffs of Waynesburg have competed in 40 Pennsylvania Slate Farm Shows. Charles B. Om dorff started it all in 1948 when he began raising and showing Bel gians. Corbly and his sister Christ ina carried on the winning tradition by capturing the grand champion in the Belgian stallion division with their six-year-old, Omdorff Congolaise Supreme. They also took the reserve grand champion mare honors at the 72nd Pennsyl vania State Farm Show with Om dorff s Supreme Laura. Draft horse spectators, breeders, exhibitors and enthusiasts expect the Omdorffs of Greene County to take home a few blue ribbons. Last year the Omdorffs exhibited the Belgian grand champion mare and grand champion stallion. Their name has become synonomous with draft horse excellence. The Omdorffs were making a nice sweep of first places and champion spots, but the Belgian Mare of Arthur E. Reist put a halt to that sweep. The Reists have a record of farm show winners. Reists’ Carolyn’s Cinderella took the honors. Not to be confused with the Bel gian horse breeders with the same name of Greene County, the Bel gians of the Larry B. Omdorff family of McKnightstown, Adams County, has produced an out standing stallion, Omdorffs High land Hy-Hope which took the reserve grand champion title in the Belgian stallion class. Although they both raise Belgians and have gotten together to talk horses and the possiblity of family ties, accenting to Larry, they are not related. In twelve years of showing and exhibiting this is the second champion Larry and his family have shown. In the 1986 State Farm Show, they took home the grand champion title for the Bel gian Mare. Allebachs’ Percherons Clydesdales Are Victorious BY PAT PURCELL HARRISBURG The AUebachs of Centre County were a force to be reckoned with in the Clydesdale and Percheron draft horse compet ition of the 72nd Pennsylvania State Farm Show. They swept all but three titles in both draft horse contests. The Allebachs improved on their 1987 record when they took the rosette for the top Percheron stallion. This year’s bounty included the top honors for grand champion mare and grand champ ion stallion, earned by Wind mere’s Roxanne and Windmere’s Caesar. Preventing them from making a clean sweep of the competition, William and Carol Kronen from Freeport in Armstrong County led their stallion, Hazlewood’s Rena’s Sam, into the winner’s circle for the reserve grand champion hon ors. Reserve grand champion mare was awarded to Miss Jodi Laet from Pennwoods Percherons in Centre Hall in Centre County. Clydesdale Champions The Allebachs have a decided edge in the Clydesdale competi tion. In the five years they have exhibited at the Pennsylvania State Farm Show they have had three grand champions. Two of those Carolyn’s - jrella took grand champion Belgian mare. Owned by Arthur Reist of Lancaster the 2-year-old is the offspring of Orndorffs H Premier Carolyn.
