We also compiled all published U.S. state yield data from 1982 to 1986 on the same varieties. These varieties were ranked on the basis of how often they out-yielded other varieties planted In the same state yield trial, a good Indication of consistency. fa Varieties Compare Past Rsslstsncs Ratings Phyto. For example, Crown, a variety with outstanding multiple pest resistance, also rated high on the yield scale, winning 64 percent of the time over other varieties planted In the same state yield trial. On the other hand. Vernal, a widely-planted variety, exhibited resistance to only two of the major dis eases and insects. Vernal ranked last In the yield column, winning only 23 percent of the state yield comparison trials. The conclusion: ' Varieties with high levels of multiple pest resistance, such as Crown and Endure, have excellent potential to produce consistently high ylplds.
