The oldest farm recognized dur
ing the quarter is owned by Laura
Debner Gilbert and her brother
Daniel Debner of Charleroi. They
have uncovered a very colorful
history of their farm, which was
patented sometime before 1760 by
their ancestor William WinnetL
Mr. Winnett was apparently
kidnapped in England and brought
to the American colonies, where
he was bound until the age of 21.
He then took a patent foi 1,000
acres of land in Fallowfield Town
ship and married England native
Sally Strange; their first of 12
children, William Jr. was bom on
the farm in 1761. Winnett farmed
his homestead and became a barrel
maker to support his large family.
Two natural farm springs, the
only ones in the region, run off and
create wetlands conducive to wild
