JERSEY SHORE “Everyone
in the commonwealth should vote
“YES” in support of the referen

Edward P. Snook, President of the

Snook was referring to the
referendum question which will
appear on the November 3rd ballot
which will call for a one-time $ 100
million bond issue to fund a purch

in Pennsylvania.
“When farmland disappears, the
price of food just goes up, because
of transportation costs, and quality
normally suffers.
“Agriculture generates more
than $35 billion worth of business
in the state.Jt’s our number one
industry,” Snook added.

A voluntary program as the
first step toward the control and
eradication of swine brucellosis in
Pennsylvania gets started this
week, the State Department of
Agriculture announced today.
Officials said- swine affected
with brucellosis (Bang’s disease)
will continue to be a menace to the
cattle population of the State from
which the disease practically has
been eliminated.
Although killing frosts came a
week after the normal Sept. 21
frost date for this area, damage in
Lancaster County is counted in the
millions of dollars.
Most of the damage is in the
tobacco crop which was only
80-90 percent harvested. The dol
lar value of the damaged crop
would have been much higher if
the crop this year had been of bet
ter quality.
