Actually he had exactly 1315 pounds of luck with him in the form of his purebred Angus which goes by the name “Lucky”. Lucky, in his first show and also Casey’s first time showing, became the grand champion mark et steer of the New Holland Fair on Thursday. “This is the most complete packaged animal. There is evi dence of muscle through the loin, the animal is very evenly balanced and I believe when seen in the car cass this animal would be exactly what the industry is looking for,” said judge, Jon Repair, owner of 'fll P* . Casey, the 9-year-old son of Larry and Mae High of Lititz, pur chased the grand champion as a 1-month-old calf, from Cobble Pond Farm. Lucky acquired his name after he had been on the High farm for awhile. “Lucky almost died,” said Larry High, “and I told Casey if he pulled out of that he would be lucky and he did.” And luck was with the High’s at the market steer sale, but it seemed to be the wrong kind at first. Bid ding for the grand champion beef got off to a slow start and was about to end at $ 1.65/lb. That was when John W. John Risser of Dauphin Deposit Bank purchased the top steer for $3.00 per pound. Business Officer of Dauphin Deposit Bank, Columbia, walked in and revitalized the bidding. Representing Dauphin Deposit Bank, Risser purchased the 1375 lb. animal for $3 per pound. Keeping it all in the family Nichole High captured the reserve grand championship with her 1315 lb. purebred Angus named “Jack pot”. Yoder’s Country Market pur chased the reserve champion for $1.45 per pound. The average price per pound for the 4-H market steers was $.98, not including the champions.
