Stephanie showed her a handful of silage and explained its composition. The fermentation, she noted, is what Leslie smelled. Stephanie pointed out the com puterized feeders, adding that the cows “eat four times a day to help them give the maximum amount of milk. They can only get the feed at certain limes, though.” “They must get accustomed to what time of day it is,” Leslie said. Stephanie agreed, adding, “Cows really have it made in comparison to people.” The next stop on the tour was the calf raising area on the hill behind the bam. Leslie admired the healthy-looking calves Both hutches and condomi nium, and held the bottle while one of the calves drank. “It doesn’t take long to put one of these things down, does it?” she remarked as 9' ;q-- h the cow she watched Stephanie show at the Franklin County Fair. At the conclusion of the lour, Leslie commented, “It’s interest ing to know what all goes on.” Many of Leslie’s duties in promoting the Franklin County Fair as Fair Queen involve agriculture. Both Fair Queen and Dairy Prin cess will be leaving Franklin County this week to further their educations. Leslie, who sings and plays the flute, will enroll in West Chester University as a Music Education major. Stephanie will attend Virginia Tech with a major in Dairy Science.
