ACRES HOG UPDATE: Live
hogs settled higher this afternoon
on an active short-covering rally
with October through August ’BB
making new contract highs. Hogs
opened higher boosted by higher
cash hog openings and light move
ment yesterday and today. Bellies
traded higher on spillover strength
from the live hogs, but collapsed
near the end of today’s session
under the weight of sell stop orders
and weak wholesale belly prices.

FUTURES MARKETS
Wheat futures settled slightly
higher today, boosted by late buy
ing tied to an expanding export
business. News China was bidding
for 270,000 metric tonnes of soft
red and 90,000 of hard red for Oct.
shipment lifted futures early and
sustained gains. Advances also
were fueled by hopes that Syria
would buy some U.S. wheat when
it tenders soon. The September
option posted gains of 2-1/4 cents,
settling at $2.77-3/4 for the day.
December closed at $2.92-1/4 up

ACRES CATTLE UPDATE:
October live cattle hit a new con
tract high today at $66.15 on
aggressive buying amidst specula
tion over the Australian import
situation. A report that Australian
beef supplies in Japan were found
to be contaminated with chemical
residues furthered speculation that
Japan could turn to the U.S. for a
large share of its imports. Sharp
gains in live cattle generated a
sympathy rally in the feeders as
October through May ’BB made
new highs.
