Bellies traded higher on spillover strength from the live hogs, but collapsed near the end of today’s session under the weight of sell stop orders and weak wholesale belly prices. ACRES CATTLE UPDATE: October live cattle hit a new con tract high today at $66.15 on aggressive buying amidst specula tion over the Australian import situation. A report that Australian beef supplies in Japan were found to be contaminated with chemical residues furthered speculation that Japan could turn to the U.S. for a large share of its imports. Sharp gains in live cattle generated a sympathy rally in the feeders as October through May ’BB made new highs.
