TWO CONVENIENT LOCATIONS:.
Indeed, there is always a lot of
sewing going on in the Hoober
household, because Alissa’s twin
sister Andrea also is a seamstress
and a 4-H member. This year
Andrea was an alternate to region
al fashion revue.
Alissa said she has enjoyed her
4-H sewing, although didn’t like it
a lot until she got into the more
advanced sewing.
She added that she often looks _jj me to sew.”
for something “different and ' she has also taken crafts and
unusual” to capture the judge’s
attention, and this year she chose
to work with wool. She got a head
start on the eighth year sewing pro
ject by working with plaids in her
seventh year. Her outfit consisted
of a wool plaid skirt and loose
fitting vest, coordinated blouse
and an eye-catching wool cape.
Not a newcomer to competition,
Alissa has attended three regional
fashion revues and was a finalist in
the state contest last year. This is
her first time in the winner’s circle
at the state level

She said, “I really like to see
other people’s outfits. Some of
them were very different, and they
often have different accents, like a
beret” She says she was “impress
ed” with the state competition,
adding, “1 was surprised how
much modeling was involved. A
lot of it comes down to modeling.
Of course, there are skills involved
as well, and I learn a lot more each
year in 4-H.”
Alissa says, “I think my 4-H
experience will really help in my
future. I want to attend college and
major in home economics; that is
my main goal.” She added, “I will
probably study interior
decorating.”
Noting that she likes to sew for
herself, Alissa admits, “I like to put
creativity into my work. It makes
me feel good when I can say I
sewed it myself, and I like to add
things to individualize my sew-
