Indeed, there is always a lot of sewing going on in the Hoober household, because Alissa’s twin sister Andrea also is a seamstress and a 4-H member. This year Andrea was an alternate to region al fashion revue. Alissa said she has enjoyed her 4-H sewing, although didn’t like it a lot until she got into the more advanced sewing. She got a head start on the eighth year sewing pro ject by working with plaids in her seventh year. Not a newcomer to competition, Alissa has attended three regional fashion revues and was a finalist in the state contest last year. This is her first time in the winner’s circle at the state level 1 •* She said, “I really like to see other people’s outfits. Some of them were very different, and they often have different accents, like a beret” She says she was “impress ed” with the state competition, adding, “1 was surprised how much modeling was involved. A lot of it comes down to modeling. Of course, there are skills involved as well, and I learn a lot more each year in 4-H.” Alissa says, “I think my 4-H experience will really help in my future. I want to attend college and major in home economics; that is my main goal.” She added, “I will probably study interior decorating.” Noting that she likes to sew for herself, Alissa admits, “I like to put creativity into my work. Entering her junior year at Gar den Spot High School, Alissa will be busy with field hockey, chorus, orchestra and student council.
