Corn Winners Honored MINNEAPOLIS Lamar Miller of Manheim, was recently honored as one of the National Corn Growers Association’s (NCGA) 1986 Com Yield Contest Winners. Along with 329 other contest winners, he was recognized at NCGA’s 1987 Corn Classic Awards Banquet in Minneapolis, MN, July 19-21. Miller placed third in the state Class A Non-Irrigated Division and used Cargill 271 to produce a yield of 190.33 bushels/acre. Average yield for the division was 152.00 bu./a. “Both state and national winners should be commended and congra tulated for their outstanding capa bility of producing com,” says NCGA President Harold Cutler. “The recognition these winners receive is only a small token for their contribution to the advance ment of the com industry and agriculture.” Nearly 2,600 com growers from 45 states entered a 10 acre plot. The NCGA Com Yield Contest was organized to encourage the development of new and innova tive management techniques and to show the importance of using solid cultural practices in U.S. com production. The contest classes, include Class AA and Class A Non-Irrigated, Irrigated, No-Till Irrigated, No-Till Non-Irrigated and Ridge Till. Anyone in the continental United States may enter the Irri gated, No-Till Irrigated, No-Till Non-Irrigated and Ridge Till Divi sions. The Class AA Non-Irrigated Division is comprised of the fol lowing states: Illinois, Indiana, lowa, Kentucky, Minnesota, Mis souri, North Carolina, Ohio and Wisconsin.
