Sawaatf' AugusfT, J I9BT- • The Ayrshire show at the Leba non Area Fair was dominated by Dale Maulfair of Jonestown. Maulfair captured grand and reserve champion female titles, champion herd' and first place in the dam and daughter class. Judge Jerome Myers of Dela ware Valley College picked Maul fair Acres Oracle Dena, as the champion female. She was sired by Hammonds Oracle and pro duced 15,000 lbs. last year. The reserve champion, Maulfair Acres Jewel Dena, is a sister to the champion. Both cows are home bred. A newcomer to the Brown Swiss show took both grand and reserve champion female titles with her FFA projects. Fifteen year-old Teresa Hill, Lebanon, moved with her family from Sus sex County, NJ in March and brought her prize winning dairy stock with her. Hill’s three-year old, Little Hill Maples Marge, sired by Maple Grove Performer, was given champion honors by judge Lori Sollenberger. “The competition is a lot tough er here,” Hill commented. “It is good td see if one’s cows really can stand the challenge.” Lebanon Valley Star Veri, a five-year-old dry cow, took a trip to the winners circle for Robert Smith & Sons, Annville, winning the champion Guernsey female tide. Veri is classified at 88 and is working on a two year production record of 17,000 lbs. with 750 lbs. of butter fat. Robert Smith & Sons milk 65 Guernseys which produces the raw ingredients for their family owned dairy store, Ja-Mar Dairy. Blue Mountain Jersey’s three year-old cow Blue Mountain Lucky Clover, captured grand champion female honor at the Jersey show. The home-bred entry sired by Headspring Thor also was named best udder. Clover was bred by Mr. and Mrs. Paul Longenecker of Mifflinburg and was named FFA champion. The reserve champion Top-O- Hill Special Mingo Bambi, was owned by Melanie Bushong, Lebanon. Sired by Top-O-Mill Criterion, Bambi took first place in the senior two-year-old class. The daylong event will draw entrants from New York, Pennsyl vania, and Ohio with youngsters competing in teams and individu ally, said coordinator Thomas J. Cannon, assistant professor in the Plant and Animal Science Depart ment at Alfred State. He is being assisted by David A. Smith, asso ciate professor in the department.
