Youngsters Lead Out 541 Angus At National Show INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. Young Angus breeders from 24 states and Canada led out a top quality set of 541-head of regis tered Angus cattle at this year’s, 19th National Junior Angus Show here at the state'fairgrounds. Judge-for the breeding cattle show was Pete Sweeney, Mason, Michigan. He placed a total of 455 Angus in the bred-and-owned heif ers, owned heifers (heifers owned but not bred by die exhibitor), bred-and-owned bulls and cow/ calf pairs divisions. Dr. Doug Par rett, Urbana, Illinois, judged the 86-head Registered Angus Steer Show. Amy Ostrom, 18, Loganville, Georgia, was one happy exhibitor, as she showed the grand champion bred-and-owned heifer. Shiloh Edella G 63 earlier was named the intermediate winner of the 122-head division. This heifer is a June 1986 daughter of Cobble Pond New Yorker. The reserve grand champion bred-and-owned heifer banner went to the junior champ. Fox Hill Blackbirds Babe. This heifer is owned by Chris Jordan, 12, Ken nett Square, and is a January 1986, Kruegers Foolish Pride daughter. The limelight in the 306-head ‘owned’ heifer category shown on Ryan Cotton, 17, Howell, Michi gan, and his grand champion entry, Piper Camilla P 602. Also named the early junior champion, this heifer was bom January 1986 and was sired by Cobble Pond New Yorker. John Bell, 18, Georgetown, Kentucky, took home the reserve grand champion ‘owned’ heifer banner. Playful Lass 546 also won the late junior champion title. She is an April 1986 daughter of Brost Power Drive. Grand champion bred-and owned bull laurels went to a November 1986 son of Waldeck Shocker. In the Registered Angus Steer Show, judge Parrett slapped Stew arts Overdrive 6838 as his grand champion. Shown by Jackie Riecke, 14, Avilla, Indiana, this steer is an April 1986 son of Ken Caryl Overdrive 304 H. He weighed 1,238 pounds and had a weight per day of age of 2.69 pounds.
