Deadline Extended
For Veal Cook-Off
Contest
HARRISBURG Creative
cooks still have time to enter the
first annual Veal Cook-Off Con
test featuring more than $575 in
cash and prizes. The contest dead
line has been extended to July 20
due to the tremendous interest in
this event.
The contest will be held in Wil
liamsport. Selected finalists need
not be present; professional chefs
will prepare the selected recipes.
Any Pennsylvania resident 18
years or older with non
professional cooking status may
enter. Recipes using all cuts of veal
may be submitted. Each recipe
must contain a minimum of one
half pound fresh veal. No other
meat may be included in the
recipe, which must serve two
people.
Veal recipes will be screened by
a panel of three experienced judges
for taste, ease of preparation, origi
nality, appearance and low calorie
appeal. A professional chef will
prepare each of the top ten final
ists’ recipes which will be judged
by a committee made up of a
restauranteur, a chef, a home eco
nomist and a nutritionist
Recipes should be submitted on
an B'/j by 11-inch sheet of white
paper and be neatly printed or
typed. Recipes should be sent
directly to: PA VEAL COOK-OFF
ENTRY, P.O. Box 125, Monroe
ton, PA 18832. Entries must be
received by July 20, 1987.
The contest is held to feature
new veal recipes which will be dis
tributed in pamphlet form to the
public; to increase awareness and
understanding of veal cuts and
proper cooking methods; and to
educate consumers on the good
nutritional value, uniqueness and
versatility of veal.
The veal recipe contest, held in
conjunction with National Veal
Month in August, is sponsored by
the Pennsylvania Beef Council
through beef/veal eheck-off
