Correspondent SHIPPENSBURG The Cumberland Valley Jersey Breed ers’ July 4 Sale came off with a bang, registering the highest sale average in the four-year history of this sale. The sale, held annually on the fourth of July at the Ship pensburg Fairgrounds and spon sored by the Cumberland Valley Jersey Breeders’ Association, averaged $ 1006.03 on a total of 39 head sold. The 30 cows and bred heifers in the sale averaged $1191.60. Two cows tied for the high selling price of $2OOO. First to command the top price was WF Baron Millie consigned by Breadon Stiles, Clearbrook, Va. Selling fresh with her second calf and milking in the 50’s, Millie is a paternal granddaughter of Saint , Baroness EX-92 who has three lactation average of 15,990 pounds of milk and 734 pounds of fat actu al. Millie was purchased by Don and Jill Stonerook, Martinsburg. Following Millie next in the sale order and tying for the top price of the day was Frenz P.V.M. Jay A., a Power Valient Master daughter consigned by Lester and Ruth Martin, Chambersburg. Allen Stiles, Spring Valley Farm, West minster, Md. purchased this 4-year-old that averaged a 5.5 per cent butterfat test in her first two lactations. She sold safe in calf to Master Milestone C. This fresh 3-year-old daughter of A-Nine Top Brass sold for $1625 to Jack Raker, Lemas ters. Miriam sold with a 2:09 363-day actual record of 16,508 pounds of milk, 4.2 percent, 700 pounds of butterfat, 3.4 percent 562 pounds of protein and a MCD of plus 4,940 M, plus 113 F and plus 86$. Fresh in May, she is milking over 60 pounds per day. Ogston Top Brass Imp, con signed by John Bishop VI, Colum bus, N.J., commanded the next high selling price at $l6OO. Just fresh with her first calf in early June, this heifer had 59 pounds of milk on her first test. A daughter of A-Nine Top Brass, Imp is out of Kendale Silver Carmen Imp VG-80 who has a best effort at 5-02 303 days with 17,510 milk, 5.1 percent, 892 fat, 3.7 percent, 650 protein. Imp was purchased by Woodboune Farm Inc., Woodsvil le, N.H. The next high seller was the consignment from Ralaine Jerseys, Everett, Ralaine Jeff Song. Fresh two days prior to the sale, this daughter of Smokey Hill Saint Jeff sold for $1525 to Gerald Hart, Mifflintown. Song’s dam is a Minnie Pansy Quicksilver daught er who at 3-09 had 11,418 pounds of milk, 5.6 percent, 638 pounds of fat, 4.0 percent and 461 pounds of protein. Also selling for $1525 was HPI Magic Caress, consigned by Heif er Project International, Fort Perry, Ark.
