Ida’s Notebook Ida Risser There’s a baby in the house. At least for a few days he will be here. His father brought him along when he returned a moving trailer for our daughter who moved South. When he gets grumpy, I take him for a ride in the little red wagon with the white sides. We picked narcissus and I cut some dandelion plants for a salad for dinner as we walked up our farm lane. I’ve had to learn again to plan my work so that the coal is put in the furnace and the onions are hoed while our grandson, Matthew, takes a nap. There are places where it isn’t safe or suitable for an 8-month-old child. He enjoyed crawling in the yard while I weeded my flower beds. His father is a great handyman and helps my husband with odd jobs that have been put off around the bam. Just now there is a big microwave setting on my kitchen counter. So far, I haven’t found it to be much help in cooking for the men who depend on me to fill their stomachs. When I become more accustomed to it, I’ll probably find more uses for it. It belongs to Philip otherwise, I’d not have one as it is too expensive to simply heat leftovers. A group from our church had a progressive dinner last Saturday night and I served the main course at our house. Everyone returned to the church for dessert and coffee. It is a nice way to meet new people. But, the meal was prepared on my 42-inch electric stove. The micro wave will take time for me to learn all of its potentials. Owen J.
