FUTURES MARKET TRENDS
GRAIN AND LIVESTOCK
ACRES CORN UPDATE: Com
futures closed slightly higher after
posting losses throughout most of
today’s trading session. Com
closed strong compared to today’s
trade due to shortcovering buying
by commission houses. There was
light overnight movement in the
cash market and commercial
buying of May contracts for
possible near term export business
with Mexico added a good tone in
the com market on the closing bell.

ACRES HOG UPDATE: Hog
futures closed mixed to slightly
lower across the board today. Pork
belly futures were basically steady
to lower on spillover weakness
from the neighboring cattle
futures. Cash hogs traded firm to $
.50 higher at most terminals with
tops of |48.50. The cash market has
rallied back slightly over the last
few trading sessions but let’s not
confuse this rally with the overall
downtrending seasonal phase.

April futures are trading at |44.60
with the cash market at $48.50 and
in all likelihood, before the April
futures expire, both cash and
futures will be equal. This means
we have a potential of a $4.00 break
in the cash market between now
and April 20th.
ACRES CATTLE UPDATE:
Cattle futures closed sharply lower
today. The cattle futures gave up
most of yesterday’s gain in a sharp
sell off during the last few
minutes. Feeder cattle came back
down near last week’s lows closing
sluggish. The cash market opened
steady to $ .50 higher which ap
peared to be a good start, but
slowly deteriorated through the
trading session, closing steady to |
.50 lower.
