Philadelphia Eggs Thursday, Mar. 5,1987 Report Supplied by USDA Market Comment: Prices were unchanged. Trade sentiment was confused. Cartoned egg demand, which had been improving, has again slowed and was generally no better than fair. Floor stocks were usually adequate. Surplus of ferings were difficult to move, and pricing became increasingly competitive to stimulated trading. Northeast Chicken Parts Thursday, March 5,1987 Comment: Trading activity was light and very disappointing. Cutlets were fully adequate to ample, and while sellers were resisting prices under $1.70, it was difficult to get any more them this. Line-one breasts were in a little better balance, but product was still fairly easy to obtain at today’s price levels. Rib breasts were ample for current needs, and most sellers were struggling with product. A fair call at best was noted on leg, and clearances still left a lot to be desired. Leg quar ters were in the best position due to advanced committment; however, there was still some product available for immediate shipment. Wings were at least adequate overall, and most have not ex perienced the turnaround that was expected. Breasts, skinned, boneless 1.70. Rib-on-breasts .89-.81. Line one breasts .77-.75. Legs .23-.54. Offerings were readily available and usually noted as slow in clearing. Demand in the parts complex was little better. Best interest was noted on leg quarters and wings but even here some plants continued to struggle to maintain satisfactory clearances. Less than trucklot asking prices were unchanged to lower at 45-51 cents, and most plants were willing to negotiate orders to enhance movement. Live supplies were at least moderate. Weights remained mostly desirable to heavy. Slaughter schedules were moderate. The undertone was mostly weak. Estimated slaughter of broiler fryers in Delmarva: Estimated 3/5 1,921,000; Actual 2/261,970,000. Actual 3/31,983,000. Average Weights 3/3 4.57, 2/24 4.59. Eastern PA and NJ Poultry Wednesday, Mar. 4,1987 Report Supplied by USDA Market Comment; Prices continued to trend lower in a market dominated by increased offering and sluggish demand for processed products.
