The merger between Inter-State Milk Producers and Lehigh Valley Farmers will be concluded and Atlantic Dairy Cooperative will officially exist. During February Atlantic is scheduled to return $9 million to the joint membership from capital retain, patronage refunds and equity programs. “Basically the membership won’t see much of a change,” according to James Barnett, member relations manager for Inter-State. The biggest change will be the two-tier quality premium, he added, providing the membership with the opportunity to increase their milk checks. The board of directors for Lehigh and Inter-State approved the merger plans on Oct. 22 and sent the plan to the membership for their vote. The joint membership approved the merger in November by 90 percent. Atlantic, based in Inter-State’s facilities in Southampton, will consist of 4,200 members with an annual mitt marketing of 3.5 billion pounds. The districts for both *1 Had An about.
