Lancaster 2 Connie Wolfe Dauphin, 3 Kevin Miller Lebanon Lower Dauphin Displays Top Exhibit HARRISBURG - The problems of trash disposal and pollution, the usefulness of computers and electricity, and facts about com were featured in the Farm Show’s winning high school vocational agricultural exhibits. Lower Dauphin Senior High School in Dauphin County took first place honors with an exhibit on the problems of trash disposal and possible solutions. Featuring a model bam separated from city buildings by a mound of trash, it explained that valuable farm land could be forced into use as landfills in the near future and offered solutions such as trash in cineration and recycling. Tri Valley High School from Schuylkill County placed second with an exhibit titled “Computers - the Farmer’s New Hired Hand.” The students backed up a variety of computer components with panels naming some of the uses of the computer on the farm - gathering information from net works, budgeting, and keeping financial and production records. f j. The public should put litter in its place, avoid phosphate use and be careful when burning trash and debris. Farmers should take care using pesticides and fer tilizers and prevent erosion, the exhibit notes. Manheim Central High School in Lancaster County placed fourth with an exhibit featuring com facts and products. Included in the exhibit are products that include com, such as cereals, chocolate syrup, taco shells, gasohol and pet food. The students also included a com stalk with its parts labeled. Elizabethtown Area School District in Lancaster County came in fifth, presenting an exhibit titled “Electricity - Prime Mover of Agriculture.” The exhibit included such items as a fan, motor, power drill, telephone, typewriter, electric fence and heater.
