Angus Bulls Join ABS Lineup
Two Angus bulls with impressive
progeny records and a national
show champion, have recently
joined the lineup of bulls at
American Breeders Service,
reports Keith Vander Velde,
manager of beef programs for the
firm
Gartner Denowh Angus Ranch’s
Rito 2100 G D A R ranks very high
m the 1986 Angus Sire Elevation
report with an Expected Progeny
Difference (EPD) of +26.7 pounds
for weaning weight and +59.2
pounds for yearling weight. His
EPD for birth weight is +6.3
pounds.
Rito 2100 is a great grandson of
the former ABS bull 707 of Ideal
53370. In the early 1970’5, 707 of
Ideal was known by hundreds of
Angus breeders as the “total
performance bull” and was a key
reference sire in the association’s

Ranch of Briggs, Texas, is another
four-year-old with a good deal of
progeny information. His EPD of
+5.8 pounds for birth weight,
+29.3 pounds for weaning weight,
and +73.2 pounds for yearling
weight, demonstrates his ability to
pass inheritance for rapid growth
on to his offspring.
The third new arrival, Harts
Wild Turkey 5020, is a yearling
with an already impressive show
record. This grandson of Mr Angus
was bred by Bradley Hart of
Frederick, South Dakota, and is
owned by a group headed by
Weaver Angus Ranch of Peoria,
Illinois. He was Junior Bull Calf
Champion at the 1985 National
Angus Show, Winter Bull Cham
pion, at the 1986 National Western,
and Reserve Grand Champion at
the Western Futurity in 1986.

Del. Nurserymen
NEWARK, Del. - The annual
meeting of the Delaware
Association of Nurserymen has
been set for Jan. 22 from 8 a.m. to
4:30 p.m. at the Sheraton Inn,
Dover.
After the morning registration
period, association president Steve
Wrede will open the meeting at
8:50 a.m. A business session will
follow.
At 9:45 a.m., Charles Hitzeman
of the E. I. duPont Company will
speak on more effective
marketing. William Flemmer of
Princeton Nurseries will discuss
selecting trees for the Delaware
landscape at 10:45 a.m.
Two concurrent sessions will be
offered after lunch. A retail
workshop on signmaking will be
conducted by Ellen Stroud from
1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. A production
and landscape workshop will also
be held featuring discussions by
Sharon Ossenbruggen of the USDA
Forest Service on tree com
partmentalization and by Dr.
Bonnie Appleton of Virginia
Polytechnic Institute on a new field
growth technique
Susan Barton, extension hor
ticulturist at the University of
Delaware, will speak at 3:30 p.m.
on new ideas from the west coast
on signs, plant labeling and nur
sery production. Closing the all
day meeting, Robert Mulrooney,
University of Delaware extension
plant pathologist, will present a
pesticide update at 4:15 p.m.
Cost of the event is $2O with lunch
and $lO without lunch. To
